Sue Ryder hospice Manorlands is urging people to snap up the charity’s final 25 places in the Great North Run.

Ballot entry for the popular half-marathon closed two months ago and Sue Ryder normally has places available until July. But unprecedented demand for entry in the September 7 event means slots are limited.

Manorlands regional fundraising manager Hannah Taylor said: “Whether you’re a seasoned runner or a complete beginner, you’ll soon get the running bug if you choose to take part for us.

“The Great North Run is just one of those iconic events you have to be part of at some point in your life.

“We’re usually quite relaxed about places being available until the summer, but with so many already gone, we want to make sure we have a significant presence from ‘team Manorlands’ running.”

Entry is £50, and runners are asked to raise at least £350.
