THIS year's Haworth Steampunk Weekend has beaten expectations to raise a "staggering" £3,877 for Manorlands Hospice.

The well-attended celebration of this genre of science fiction was held for a second year last month (Nov) after a successful debut in 2013.

Main Street trader Nikki Carroll, who was one of the organisers, said she and her colleagues were "absolutely delighted" with the amount collected.

"It's a very worthy cause and we'd like to thank everyone who helped, contributed and participated," she said.

"I was hoping for about £3,500 and we exceeded that. Last year we got about £2,400."

This year's steampunk weekend featured a burlesque night, a gig night, a steampunk fashion show, steam trains, stalls, exhibitions and refreshments.

Many visitors and locals attended dressed in a huge range of imaginative outfits.

There were also ghost walks, steam train rides and a tombola.

Organisers have already confirmed that the 2015 weekend is scheduled to take place on November 20, 21 and 22.
