Silsden Gala Committee is calling on children to get out their old hats and boots to create a Guy Fawkes for bonfire night.

The “Build a Guy Fawkes” competition will be judged next Saturday, at 3pm, in the Punch Bowl pub, in Silsden.

The committee is asking children to get creative in teams of two and “grab an old suit (not your dad’s best)”, some old boots and “start stuffing” the Guy Fawkes.

That evening, a bonfire will be lit at Bradley Road Green between 6-6.30pm.

Any youngster is invited to join in the Guy Fawkes competition and could win a prize.

Gala committee chairman Councillor Chris Atkinson said: “We welcome everyone to join in, as many people as possible. The aim of the committee is to get people back on the street because it belongs to us.

“So instead of just doing the gala, we also run the bonfire night and the Christmas Extravaganza to keep people coming out and keep up that community spirit.

“Anyone who wants to get involved in helping is also welcome — if they want to come down to the green before the bonfire and help us there they will get a job.” For more information contact Cllr Atkinson on 01535 655057.
