Silsden town councillors have praised the new Craven neighbourhood police inspector for a “positive change” in the town’s policing since her arrival.
Insp Sue Sanderson attended a meeting of the council and received thanks for her approach in tackling the town’s crime.
Silsden town mayor Councillor Liz Trainor said: “I would like to say that in the short time you and Sgt Jo Beecroft have been here, I have seen a really positive change in the way police are going forward and wanting to work with the people.”
Cllr Chris Atkinson, who is also chairman of Silsden Gala Committee, praised Insp Sanderson for the presence of PC SOs at a recent bonfire night event in the town, He said: “On behalf of the gala committee, I would like to thank you for the police support during the bonfire night, I have to give praise where praise is due.
“Where it is not due, don’t worry, I will be shouting, but we asked you to be there and you were, so thank you very much.”
Insp Sanderson said the Craven NPT would be happy to go to any public event.
She added: “That is what we are here for.”
She said crime had reduced by 17 incidents during October but that the NPT would still remain vigilant.
The inspector also said she had “an office full of equipment”, such as light timers and energy saving light bulbs, to give to vulnerable people if the councillors knew of anyone who would benefit from them. She also invited councillors to come on patrol with the team and point out hotspots for attention.
