Steeton with Eastburn Parish Council voted to reject a proposal to reduce the speed limit on Keighley/Skipton Road from 60mph to 40mph.

Keighley Area Committee put forward the suggestion after receiving a number of complaints from people concerned for the “vulnerability” of cyclists who used the road.

The speed limit along the old Skipton Road to Hawkcliffe Corner has already been reduced to 30mph, but this proposal suggested reducing the 60mph limit from Hawkcliffe Corner towards Utley to 40mph.

l The council agreed to give £150 to the youth service which works in Steeton to provide a mobile skate park at Eastburn Junior and Infant School for one day.

The service planned to work with the Friends of Eastburn School to hold an activity day to make more young people aware of the youth provision in the area.

l The council decided to limit the number of keys available to the bowling pavilion to committee members and team captains. This was in response to a letter from a social member of the bowling club, who wanted to be able to have access to the indoor facilities when she played.

l Councillor John Hargreaves complained he had been misquoted as being “opposed” to the Eastburn Playing Fields project in last month’s Keighley News report of the Steeton-with-Eastburn Parish Council meeting. But the article clearly states he was recorded as showing his “optimism” for the project.
