Teams from Keighley pubs and a club took part in a six-a-side football tournament to help children being cared for at Airedale Hospital.

Seven teams from four premises — the Leylands Club, the Globe, the Shoulder of Mutton and the Woolpack — competed at Marley on Sunday. The players and supporters aim to raise enough money to pay for a new climbing frame at Airedale’s child development unit.

Among the supporters is Becci Gunning, of Thwaites Brow, Keighley. Her two-year-old son, Paddy John Stell, has Down’s syndrome and has attended the child development unit since he was born.

His mother said it was an invaluable resource, offering services such as physiotherapy and speech therapy.

She offered her thanks to everyone involved with staging the football tournament. It was mainly organised by John Fox, landlord of the Globe, and Tony Clymo, a regular at the Shoulder of Mutton.

Leylands A and Shoulder of Mutton A reached the final and the Shoulder of Mutton won by one goal to nil.

A further fundraising event for the same cause is planned for this Saturday. It is a quiz and karaoke night at the Leylands Club, starting at 8pm.

And on Sunday there will be a presentation afternoon at the Shoulder of Mutton, starting at 4pm.
