The future of three war memorial plaques dedicated to Silsden men and women who gave their lives for their country is in question.

The large, brass plaques are currently in Silsden Methodist Church but may not be erected in the new building after the present church is demolished next month.

However, minister the Rev Jacky Hale said a final decision had yet to be made.

A group of historians which runs a website called “Craven’s Part in the Great War” is concerned about the welfare of the plaques and has approached Silsden Town Council about displaying them in the town hall instead.

Mrs Hale said: “Two of the plaques are dedicated to those who lost their lives in The Great War and Second World War and contain a list of names and the other is dedicated to people from the Methodist Church who took part in the war.

“The memorials come from other older churches in the town which have since been demolished.”

At its meeting this month Silsden Town Council said it would liaise with Bradford Council, which owns the town hall, to see if the plaques could be displayed there.
