The results of one of the most comprehensive studies ever undertaken about Steeton and Silsden Railway Station are due to be published at the end of this month.

More than 400 rail users were questioned by the Steeton and Silsden Joint Transport Working Group about their experiences of using the station.

Chairman of the group, Craven ward councillor Andrew Mallinson, said members were already aware of grave disabled access and car parking problems on the site but he said the survey also threw up some other surprising results.

He said: “Passengers also raised concerns about personal safety, the small size of the shelter on the Leeds-bound platform and maintenance around the station. The work that the group has done in highlighting specific issues has been invaluable. We now want to make sure that this information gets to the right people who can make the necessary improvements to the station.”

Deputy mayor of Silsden Town Council Cllr Michael Elsmore has called for bus and train times to be more compatible with each other.
