YOUR favourite weekly read has launched an exciting new competition for all happy snappers and fantastic photographers out there.

The total prize package is worth more than £500 and follows on from the hugely successful inaugural event held last year to mark the Keighley News going full colour.

Our picture perfect contest will put your artistic efforts in the frame by sharing them with our thousands of readers, both in print and online.

We have teamed up with Keighley’s Airedale Shopping Centre to offer some fantastic prizes for the most imaginative images and scenic settings captured on camera from our newspaper catchment area.

This is a great way for keen amateur photographers to show off their talents and get their work published.

We will be printing a selection of the photographs we have received in full colour until the end of October. Entries will also be displayed in the Airedale Shopping Centre and readers will have the chance to vote for their favourite.

In association with Airedale Shopping Centre, the overall winner of the Keighley News competition will receive a superb state-of-the-art GoPro Hero 3+ Sports Action digital camera, worth £360. This cracking bit of kit features 4k video capture, shoots in stunning 12 megapixel images, is waterproof up to 40 metres, Wi-Fi enabled and is fully wearable and mountable.

The prized picture will also be scanned onto a giant 30in by 20in canvas, worth about £100, courtesy of Max Spielmann, which has a branch in the Airedale Shopping Centre.

And two lucky runners-up will also receive a 30in by 20in £100 canvas of their entries.

Last year’s winner was Joe White, of Stanbury, whose picture perfect photo was of a rustic footpath sign pointing to Brontë Country on the moorland close to his home. And just a handful of the early entries are printed here.

But can you do better?

All you have to do is send us the favourite photograph you’ve ever taken of this glorious part of the country, stretching to the villages neighbouring Skipton in the north, the borders of Ilkley Moor in the east, Denholme in the south and Stanbury in the west.

Closing date for entries is noon on Thursday, October 23, 2014.

See the panel printed at the bottom of the page for full terms and conditions of how to enter.

Keighley News editor Richard Parker said: “We live and work in arguably the most beautiful setting in God’s own county, and it’s not difficult to feel inspired from the rugged beauty of the moors to the proud industrial heritage of Keighley.

“What better way to celebrate our wonderful surroundings than by capturing some of these superb scenes on camera to share with our loyal readers?

“Last year’s competition was a huge success. We were inundated with some truly superb entries, and selecting a winner was a very difficult choice. I hope this year will be equally as tough.”

Airedale Shopping Centre manager, Steve Seymour, said: “We really hope to have even more entries this year and celebrate the unrivalled scenery we are lucky enough to enjoy here.”
