A GROUP of mums whose children attend Eastwood Primary School have been recognised for their commitment to improving their English language skills.

The nine mothers, accompanied by the school's parental involvement worker and family centre manager Zaibun Khan attended a family learning celebration event at the Carlisle Business Centre earlier this month

The mothers were presented with certificates of achievement for gaining their Functional skills accreditation in English.

A spokesman for Eastwood Primary said: "During the celebrations there were creative activities for the ladies to take part in and this was followed by an awards ceremony.

"Our school was incredibly honoured to receive an award for Longstanding Commitment to Family Learning. This is something which the school is very proud of, and we and invest substantial time and finances into this area.

On returning to the school with the trophy, Mrs Khan said: "This award is recognition of all the hard work that our families put into supporting their children’s learning here at Eastwood Primary.

"We are very proud of all these ladies, and the many other family members who have attended our courses held in our school Family Centre.

"We hope that this award will give others the confidence to come and get involved in the future."
