Cross Hills Library is to be extended to more than twice its current size.
North Yorkshire County Council said once complete, the improvements should provide better access to face-to-face public services, along with facilities for residents to hire for community events.
The library will move into temporary accommodation in St Peter’s Church Hall, Main Street, Cross Hills, from 10am, on Monday, August 24.
It will close on its existing site for the extension work to take place at 1pm this Saturday.
From August 24, opening hours will be Mondays 10am-1pm and 2-7pm, Thursdays 2-5pm and Fridays 2-7pm.
The temporary library will provide a selection of children’s and adult stock, including audio books and story tapes for children.
It will also include Internet and computer provision.
The new extended library is expected to be open in six months.
County Councillor Chris Metcalfe, North Yorkshire’s executive member for library and community services, said the enhanced facility would be able to offer a greater range of services to the community.
