Bradford Council — Bingley Rural
Margaret Eaton
(Conservative)
Margaret Eaton has lived with her family in Cottingley for 38 years.
She has been a Bingley Rural councillor since 1986.
She was leader of Bradford Council from 2000 until she stepped down in May 2006. During that time she spearheaded an initiative with the West Yorkshire Police to launch police community contact points (PCCPs) throughout the district.
There are currently seven PCCPs in the Shipley area, including Cottingley, Cullingworth, Denholme and Wilsden in Bingley Rural.
Margaret has also been involved in the Cornerstone community project in Cottingley and was invited to lay the cornerstone of the community hall in 2006.
Her services to local government and the community were recognised in 2003 when she was awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours.
Her service to the community was further recognised in January 2007 when the Bishop of Bradford installed her as a lay canon of Bradford Cathedral.

James Albert Newton (Labour)
Originally from Durham, I have lived in Wilsden for 13 years.
I love it here, being a part of a thriving community.
I am seeking election to ensure that the needs of this rural area are recognised and met.
It is vital that we protect those elements and services which make our villages good places to live.
I am a governor of Wilsden Primary School and a volunteer helper.
This involves trying to keep up with the computer skills of reception and year one pupils.
After a career which included learning disabilities and general nursing, management and education, I am now semi-retired.
My other interests include hill walking and motorcycling.
A qualified mountain leader, I lead walking holidays in Britain and abroad and accompany school trips.
Alan Sykes(Lib Dem)
Alan Sykes lives in Harden. He is the treasurer and past chairman of the Bradford Heart Support Group and has contributed to its work by supporting patients at cardiac rehabilitation classes at the Bradford Royal Infirmary.
He is retired from his work as a senior manager with a major UK petrochemical company. He has considerable experience as a councillor having been the leader of the Liberal Democrat group on a county council for ten years. He is now a parish councillor in Harden.
The Liberal Democrats have a good record of supporting schools, he says.
"We will provide effective support for older people, people with disabilities and special needs," he said. "Appropriate help and care is an important part of enabling people to have the fullest possible life.
"People deserve and should demand honesty and openness from local government. Decisions should be made as close as possible to the people they affect."
