Bradford Council — Keighley Central
Jamil Arshad (Conservative)Jamil Arshad is a 54-year-old local businessman who has lived in Keighley for 40 years.
He served the textile industries of Yorkshire in the 1970s before working in sales for the American Life insurance company.
He established his own building business in 1982 and, with his pro-active approach, hard work and practical leadership, built a successful company of 25 years serving Keighley, Halifax, Bradford and Leeds.
A devoted family man, Jamil is married with four grown-up, well-educated children and two grandchildren.
Aside from his professional life, he has done voluntary work for Victim Support, in Keighley.
He also enjoys reading and is a regular attendee at his local gym.
Jamil says he believes everyone who grows up in the town should enjoy the same educational and job opportunities as his own children.
He is also concerned at health inequalities in the district, which he argues must be urgently addressed.
Roger Beaumont(Lib Dem)Yorkshire born and bred, Roger has been married to Jenny for 37 years. He has two sons and one grand-daughter.
He has worked in both the private and public sectors (printing, textiles and transport, the health service and education) in roles ranging from lorry driver to Open University tutor.
He has been a member of Keighley Liberal Democrats for about 30 years and is currently chairman and runs their website.
Roger wants everyone in Keighley Central to be able to go to an NHS dentist and he wants more police on the beat.
Bradford Council could do better with basic amenities like readable street signs, he says.
He adds: "I support the Greener, Cleaner Keighley campaign being run by Keighley Town Council and its aim to help people to be able to clear rubbish from their yards and streets."
Khadim Hussain (Labour)I have been the district councillor for four years and have played an active role in local/community issues throughout Keighley Central.
I have lived in the area for over 40 years.
I have served as a non-executive director of Airedale Primary Care Trust for a number of years, am a former member of the Capital of Culture Partnership Board, am a director of Keighley Asian Business Forum, governor of Victoria Primary School, former governor of Greenhead High School and also a JP on the Keighley bench since 1995.
I have been a member of the employee appeals panel, environment and waste management improvement committee, Keighley Area Committee, the regeneration and economy improvement committee and social services appeals panel.
I am very passionate about Keighley and have a keen interest in the issues we face. I have always made myself available and been committed to help deal with all residents' needs.
