Bradford Council — Keighley East
Judith Brooksbank (Lib Dem)Judith Brooksbank won a seat on Keighley Town Council last May. Married, with two grown-up sons, she works for an electronics company.
She is campaigning to protect Park Wood, an ancient woodland in her town council ward, Long Lee and Parkwood.
She will fight to put environmental issues at the heart of Bradford's agenda, especially protecting Park Wood from being destroyed to make a new road.
She believes we can improve public transport, reduce car use and manage traffic better, for instance by co-ordinating pedestrian crossings along Bradford Road.
She is working with Bradford Council officials to improve playgrounds in her ward and she wants improvements to Parkwood School building.
Judith believes Bradford Council should improve services to vulnerable people. She wants Bradford Council to be more open and local people to be more involved in making decisions.
Dorothy Clamp (Conservative)Although born in Nottinghamshire I have lived with my husband in the Keighley area since the 1970s and in Riddlesden since 1991.
I sit on the trustee board of Keighley Citizens Advice Bureau and the Park Lane College Keighley advisory board and am a governor at two local schools.
I am passionate about continuing to improve education in the area, working towards the eradication of unsociable behaviour across all age groups and the provision of good, compassionate care for the sick and elderly.
I was a councillor for Keighley East for three years from 2004-7, working to help residents and improve the area.
In another term I would work to ensure that the area receives its fair share of any future resources and inward investment also to ensure that the views of residents are fully represented. In my spare time I work to raise money for Cancer Research and Manorlands.
Malcolm Slater (Labour)I was born, brought up and educated in Keighley and have lived in the area most of my life.
Married with grown-up children and six grandchildren, I was first elected as district councillor in 1991.
Retirement from a career mainly in education meant that I can devote more time to helping people in my ward.
I have experience in a wide range of community issues, including housing, planning, highways and cleansing.
As well as alternate member of Keighley Planning Panel and Keighley Area Committee, I am chairman of West Yorkshire Trading Standards Committee.
I am committed to ensuring my home town of Keighley receives its fair share of resources for jobs and regeneration, helping to promote a feeling of identity and community pride.
I support the eventual establishment of a Keighley borough council, taking up from the previous one for which my father worked for most of his life.
