Planners to decide on controversial Sutton homes plan

A meeting to decide the future of a controversial plan for 54 homes in Sutton will be held next week.

Craven District Council’s planning committee will meet on Wednesday to discuss an outline application to build 54 houses on land off Holme Lane, known locally as Thompson’s Field.

The plan, which was submitted by Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes, includes the construction of 54 dwellings, a car parking area, landscaped riverside walk, wildflower meadow and structural planting.

It would also involve the installation of a roundabout on Holme Lane.

Residents have objected to the application, saying the development would put pressure on local schools and infrastructure and would cause traffic problems. Some also claim there is no need for more affordable housing in the village.

The meeting will be held at South Craven Baptist Church, on Holme Lane, at 1.30pm.
