Artists join forces to put work on show in exhibition

The latest exhibition at Central Hall, Keighley, sees two local artists collaborating for the first time.

Contrasting work by Linda Harrison and Ruth Wightman is displayed under the title Aire at the community centre.

Ruth said the exhibition compared and contrasted the artists’ different styles to produce a stimulating mix of paintings, prints, text and photography.

She said: “The exhibition aims to evoke in the viewer that which pertains to experience and dreams, leaving space for personal interpretation.”

Ruth has taught art at Bradford, Shipley and Keighley colleges and Cliffe Castle Museum and is currently exhibiting her work at Christ Church in Ilkley. Her company Art-star delivers art workshops to schools and community groups.

Linda has a background in photography, print, collage, paint and textiles, and has exhibited widely in West Yorkshire as well as in Lancashire and London.

She collects lost or discarded objects, texts, scenarios and photographs, which she believes acquire a new ‘preciousness’ and ‘narrative’ in her work.

Aire is on show at Central Hall, Alice Street, until November 23. The hall is open weekdays from 9am to 4pm and on Saturdays from 9.30am to 2pm.
