Find out the secrets of Swartha Wood

Keighley News: Shaun O’Hare Shaun O’Hare

The history of a tiny wood on the outskirts of Silsden is to be researched by volunteers.

Locals are invited to a training session in readiness for investigations into various aspects of Swartha Wood.

Participants will learn how to use online resources and West Yorkshire Archive Service.

The training has been organised by Keighley and Ilkley Voluntary and Community Action and the Forest of Bradford, with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

KIVCA officer Shaun O’Hare said the training aimed to encourage locals to get involved in the project investigating the semi-ancient woodland. He said: “They will establish how long the wood has been there and what it meant to the industry and lives of residents. They will record the data for future generations.”

The session will be on November 26 from 5pm to 7pm at Central Hall, Alice Street, Keighley. People can book a place by contacting Shaun on 01535 665258 or shaun@kivca.org.
