A decision on whether to extend the opening hours of a Silsden takeaway has been deferred.

Members of Keighley Area Licensing Panel want to give the owner of Tucos an opportunity to attend a future meeting.

The owner, Mohammed Azeem, of Cark Road in Keighley, had applied to open the Kirkgate takeaway into the early hours.

He wants to provide refreshment until 3am on Saturday and Sunday mornings and until midnight on other nights.

The hot food takeaway and burger business currently opens until 11.30pm on weekdays and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

In his application, Mr Azeem said he would prevent crime and disorder by providing adequate lighting, working with local police and using social networking to keep the community aware.

He pledged to clear litter each day, provide notices asking people to leave quietly and make sure nobody used the external area after 11pm.

The licensing panel was told last week that Bradford Council’s health officer, Aliah Syed, recommended refusal of the application, as late opening could adversely affect the neighbourhood through noise and disturbance.

Speaking to the Keighley News, Silsden mayor Councillor Chris Atkinson said the location of Tucos was built-up and unsuitable for late-night comings and goings.

He added: “There will be a lot of flats in that block and there are people living above the shops on the other side of the road.”
