A light-hearted internet posting by a Keighley business triggered an unexpectedly massive response from thousands of people.

Adam Halliday, who owns a cafe in Keighley Market Hall, was amazed by the viral reaction to his picture of a £2 Euro Millions lottery ticket on his firm’s own Facebook page.

He bought the ticket from Keighley’s Morrisons store, before taking a photo of it and posting the image on the page, which is called Adams Cafe Keighley Market.

His caption accompanying the photo read: “All you have to do is like our Facebook page and like our photo before it’s drawn [on] Tuesday, and if we win the £133 million, whoever likes it will all get a share.”

Within days it had accumulated a staggering 40,801 ‘likes’ from Facebook users, as well as 471 comments.

Mr Halliday, who lives in Steeton, said: “It’s just been unbelievable.”

He said the ticket didn’t win any money, but added that if it had scooped a small amount, he would have given that to charity.

Now he plans to repeat the stunt, using the same Facebook page to ask people to suggest charities to benefit from any future winnings.
