Recycling centre closure plan is criticised

Sugden End recycling centre at Cross Roads could close.

The proposal is included in Bradford Council’s initial draft budget for 2013/14, but has come under fire from Worth Valley councillor Rebecca Poulsen.

She said: “Closing Sugden End will only further lead the hard-working folk of Worth Valley to question the value they get for their council tax.”

The draft budget states most homes would remain within a 15-minute drive time of a household waste recycling centre and virtually all within 20 minutes’ drive time.

It adds: “Sites in Keighley and Queensbury are within reasonable range of the communities using Sugden End.”

It can often take 15 minutes to get through South Street alone. When did these people do the timings - 4 on a Sunday morning? All this is going to do is increase fly-tipping.

Ive never known a council put so many obstacles in the way of legalised tipping. Bradford really are the pits.

Ridiculous, why should people from Haworth fight through keighley traffic to take their waste away. I use this tip regularly mostly because the doorstep recycling system is useless. Dump it in Keighley - no one will notice and may even improve the centre!

Yes fly tipping will increase, also roads more congested, do they care, I suspect the answer is no. Lets be thankfull that our bins get emptied weekly.
