Ambitious play area plans revealed for popular park

Ambitious plans for three separate play zones in Oakworth have been revealed by the Friends of Holden Park.

The group recently applied for cash to replace the current rundown children’s play area at the bottom of the park. They will follow this by raising money for a multi-use games area for older children on the park’s old tennis courts.

The Friends also plan to apply to a Military of Defence charity for cash to build an assault course in the woods above the park.

The campaign began after Oakworth mother Jo Spencer complained about the “disgusting” state of the existing play area.

Mrs Spencer worked on plans for a £70,000 playground with the Friends group and Bradford Council recreation officers.

Donations from Keighley Area Committee, Keighley Town Council and Bradford councillors representing the Worth Valley ward enabled an application to be made to environmental charity Wren for the bulk of the money.

Friends spokesman Jackie McGinnis said: “We consulted the children in the school and they were happy with the design.

“The older young people also deserve something, and it will stop them going on the other playground and wrecking it.”
