College backs bid for PACK funding
1:00pm Saturday 29th December 2012 in Keighley
A community centre has received support from Keighley’s college in its fight to stay open.
The town campus of Leeds City College wants to build on its existing links with the cash-starved Parents Advice Centre Keighley.
During the past year, 40 people have taken part in courses taught by Keighley Campus staff at PACK’s Russell Street premises.
Centre operations director, John Toothill, said there were plans for new college courses in 2013, if funding could be found. The centre is currently in urgent need of cash to cover running costs and activities following the loss of Bradford Council funding.
Mr Toothill said: “Keighley Campus is the most recent organisation to express the wish that PACK can be funded by Bradford Council to enable it to improve educational standards.
“PACK plays a vital role in making a positive contribution by assisting the local community to work with the college.”
Keighley Rotary Club has also donated £65 – proceeds of carol singing in the town centre – to the charity.
