Volunteer drivers’ new car scheme
2:00pm Monday 31st December 2012 in Keighley
A self-help transport scheme for older people is being set up by the Keighley Shares network.
The volunteer car scheme will involve people giving lifts to others who want to go to the same social activity. Drivers will benefit by getting money towards their petrol and passengers will pay less ‘fare’ than for a taxi.
The scheme is being organised by Shona Grange, who runs Shares networks across Bradford district.
She said: “A lot of local bus services have been cancelled, especially in remote areas, and getting to the nearest bus stop can be tricky if you’re not steady on your feet or you lack confidence.”
Mrs Grange said drivers will have to undergo basic checks. Contact her at shona.grange@creativesup port.co.uk or call 01274 432438.
