Brent Fitzpatrick, chairman of governors at Phoenix and Merlin Top schools in Keighley, has travelled to London to receive his MBE from the Queen.

He was given the accolade in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2012 for services to education.

Mr Fitzpatrick has worked as a school governor since 1972, supporting 13 schools in the district. He also sits on various committees and focus groups related to education.

He said: “While I was honoured and proud to be awarded the MBE, I was also deeply humbled.

“My investiture by the Queen was a truly memorable day as it was clearly a new experience for me, but I was also moved by the number of other very deserving people, from all walks of life, also being recognised on that day.

“I always thought of my role in education as being a member of a team, and whilst I am delighted to receive the MBE, I will always regard it as a ‘team prize’, encompassing all the wonderful support I have had from my fellow governors and dedicated teaching professionals.”
