A music group based at a community centre in central Keighley has celebrated its first birthday by adopting a new name.

The Temple Row Music Group, now known as the The Bandwagoners, has won funding to support its work.

And the Wednesday morning sessions are so popular that a spin-off singing group has also been formed.

The music group was set up by Keighley Disabled People’s Centre with volunteer Geoff Donaldson at the helm.

Geoff is a community health champion with the NHS Champion Shows the Way project, which has agreed to pay for the Bandwagoners’ weekly room hire.

Keighley Area Committee, part of Bradford Council, has provided £300 towards running costs. Support is also given by Keighley Volunteer Centre.

Geoff said the Bandwagoners and the singing group thoroughly enjoyed performing a joint carol concert recently at Temple Row.

They will also perform at an event next month which will showcase the work of various Champions Show the Way groups.

The Bandwagoners are looking for extra musical instruments, particularly acoustic guitars, ukuleles, penny whistles and violins. Anyone who can help, or would like to join, should contact (01274) 321911.
