Stunned neighbours spoke of their “utter shock” at what happened, with many saying they were puzzled by what could possibly have been the motive.
One neighbour said: "I can’t believe it. No one can. He’s such a cheerful little boy. Him and his twin are usually up and down the street on their scooters, really friendly little boys.”
Another woman who lives just doors away from where it happened said: “I’ve just found out. My heart is broken. I can’t imagine what his family are going through. I haven’t a clue what’s gone on in that house.”

My thoughts go out to the family. I live near here and the police have been searching round for hours for the weapon.

Keighley town councillor Lionel Lockley, whose Bracken Bank and Ingrow ward includes Harewood Road, said: “I was shocked and stunned when I heard, just couldn’t believe it.
“You don’t expect this sort of thing to happen, not to a four-year-old child.
“I feel awful for the family.”

Keighley town mayor Coun George Metcalf - who lives in Valley Close, not far from the scene in Harewood Road - said: “It’s tragic for a child so young to die and I’m devastated for the mother and other family members. To think what they must be going through.”

Kieran Pilsworth, head of marketing for the railway, said: “Services began as normal this morning but at about 11am the police asked us to close the tunnel.
“We have continued to run a service between Oxenhope and Damems on the top section of the line and are operating a bus between Keighley and Haworth.
“We don’t know at this stage when the normal timetable will be resumed.”

Where do knives fit into a family party, with kids upstairs?

I must live in a parallel universe.
