Stunned neighbours spoke of their “utter shock” at what happened, with many saying they were puzzled by what could possibly have been the motive.
One neighbour said: "I can’t believe it. No one can. He’s such a cheerful little boy. Him and his twin are usually up and down the street on their scooters, really friendly little boys.”
Another woman who lives just doors away from where it happened said: “I’ve just found out. My heart is broken. I can’t imagine what his family are going through. I haven’t a clue what’s gone on in that house.”

A shocked community has been paying tribute to a four-year-old boy murdered at his Keighley home.
Neighbours said the tragic tot was an identical twin who lived with his mother and her partner.
The family, including other children, had lived at the house in Harewood Road for about 18 months, according to neighbours.

Keighley town mayor Coun George Metcalf - who lives in Valley Close, not far from the scene in Harewood Road - said: “It’s tragic for a child so young to die and I’m devastated for the mother and other family members. To think what they must be going through.”

Bosses on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway have said they are giving their full assistance to murder squad detectives investigating the death of a four-year-old boy.
Ingrow Tunnel, on the five-mile line, has been cordoned off as part of the police inquiries.
Kieran Pilsworth, head of marketing for the railway, said: “Services began as normal this morning but at about 11am the police asked us to close the tunnel.
“We have continued to run a service between Oxenhope and Damems on the top section of the line and are operating a bus between Keighley and Haworth.
“We don’t know at this stage when the normal timetable will be resumed.”

Police have arrested a Keighley man on suspicion of murder after a four-year-old boy died this morning.
At around 4.40am police were called by the ambulance service to an address on Harewood Road, Bracken Bank, after reports that a four-year old had died at the address.
The child was taken to Airedale Hospital by ambulace where he was pronounced dead.
A murder investigation was launched by West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.
At 11.30am a 32-year old man was arrested from an address in the Ingrow area of Keighley.
The man was arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.
Inquiries are ongoing and no further details are expected to be released today.
A police cordon is in place at the tunnel at Ingrow railway station.
Meanwhile, intense searches are being carried out in the Harewood Road area.
Police have been seen searching in bins and on garage roofs in the hunt for further evidence.
Forensics officers, in white suits, are also on the scene.
