A series of open-top bus tours will return to Keighley district this year... but will incorporate a significantly longer route.
Keighley Heritage Town Tour ran for nine days in 2012, including the summer bank holiday.
People were driven around some of the town’s historic sights and visitor attractions by Graham Mitchell, of the Keighley Bus Museum Trust. He delivered a commentary to passengers, giving insights into Keighley’s religious, industrial and architectural history.
The double decker was run on contract to the Bronte Country Tourism Partner-ship (BCTP), which markets Keighley and the Worth Valley as a visitor destination.
Speaking at the latest BCTP meeting last Wednesday, Mr Mitchell showed members a longer route he had devised called ‘The Grand Tour’, which also takes in Oakworth, Haworth and Cross Roads.
“This route can operate on a two-hour cycle,” he said. “It would include more information for passengers, is very scenic and would link into the Haworth tourist attractions.”
He argued the flat fare for paying passengers should ideally rise from £1 to £2.
The BCTP again agreed to cover the tour’s basic running costs of £205 a day.
