Concerns are voiced over Cullingworth chicken factory

Cullingworth councillors have met with an environmental health officer to discuss ongoing issues surrounding a local chicken factory.

This month’s Cullingworth Village Council meeting was told Jacqui Guy and Lionel Ackroyd had spoken to Neil Winchcombe about problems including noise, smell and parking.

Councillors said they would arrange a meeting with the management of the factory, off Station Road.

Speaking after the meeting, village council chairman Coun Guy said: “The village council is totally committed to representing the views of residents – we are doing our best.

“There is an acceptance that because of the processes that take place, there are going to be odours, and the factory has tried to improve the situation.

“When the lids of the tanks where chicken parts are being separated are lifted, that’s when these smells occur. They’ve started to use odour suppressants in some of their processes, which has helped.”
