A family-run restaurant and bar is to close after 35 years in Haworth.

Weavers, in West Lane, will open for the final time on Saturday, February 16.

The business has been run by husband-and-wife team Colin and Jane Rushworth and their daughters, Sally and Lucy. The kitchen is managed by head chef Ross Swinson.

Colin, 68, who was born in Haworth, said the restaurant was closing as he and Jane were retiring. He has a background of working at hotels in London, beginning as a chef and later becoming a hotel manager. He met Jane during his time in London, when she was working as a textile designer.

“We opened Weavers from scratch in 1978,” said Colin. “We started in one part of the building with six tables, which is all we could afford to do, but we’ve grown since then.

“Business has been good as we’ve had a very loyal customer base. We do pick up a few tourists, but three-quarters of our trade has come from local families.”

He said he and his wife were looking forward to having more time to pursue their hobbies. He said the building was being sold and its new owners planned to turn it into an eight-bedroom hotel.
