Cullingworth butcher's surge in sales, thanks to horse meat crisis

John Ellison John Ellison

A Cullingworth butcher has seen trade soar thanks to the horse meat crisis.

Ellisons says business overall has risen by ten per cent, while sales of beefburgers have rocketed by 30 per cent.

John Ellison, for the firm, said the horse meat scandal had hit consumer confidence in supermarket products.

Ellisons is a member of the Q Guild, a group of leading independent butchers.

Mr Ellison said: “We can’t believe how many beefburgers are flying off our shelves.

“More and more customers are coming through the door – this has been a real win for not only us but the Q Guild as a whole.

“Our meat is sourced from local farms and we pride ourselves on this. Our burgers are not only homemade and totally tasty, but 100 per cent free from horse meat.”

Sales figures from all Q Guild members indicate shoppers are heading back to the high street following the scare.

Q Guild chairman, Brindon Addy, said: “Since the horse meat scandal hit the news, consumers have become aware there isn’t transparency in purchasing meat, in particular burgers, from supermarkets.

“This isn’t the case with Q Guild butchers, who can show the provenance of all the products they sell. We pride ourselves on being able to deliver from farm to plate and knowing each step of that process.”

jimmy k, you have to eventully trust somebody.
Roy Dykes, in my book is, I belive the best in Keighley, trusrworthy and honest and at prices one can afford.
So jimmy k, a man in business you know wouldn't tell you lies.

jimmy k It would seem that you have a great deal to learn:

Cullingworth is in the Keighley area, as is Haworth, Oxenhope, etc but thankfully not under the financial yoke of Keighley Town Council and it’s high precept rises.

May I therefore suggest that, possibly you, as a loyal and subservient member of the ‘‘Love Keighley Town Council High Rates’ group ask the KTC’s hugely financial wasteful Management and Staffing Committee for lots of money, a really for large and expensive gold covered map.

I think you will be surprised at what you see.

60%? I think you're being rather conservative 8-Ball.

Come on jimmy k you must know by now mere mortals with no axe to grind with anyone are not allowed an opinion on any threads on this site.

Just for the record Cullingworth was part of the old Bingley U.D.C., anyway back to meat.

Keighley Market has a gem in Kitchermans at the end past the cafe, well worth a try.

Supermarkets have been fooling us for years, only use them for tins ect, rather cook my own food and grow what I can. I am away allot, so having a friendly neighbour to do some watering is great.

I am glad that local butchers are enjoying a renaissance, let us hope the public have learned the lesson.

Jimmy k. your unbelievable hypocrisy shows no bounds.
How you and your friends can sleep at night with a clear conscience is beyond my comprehension.

Whilst I and others have tried to reveal the financial truth of what we believe to be KTC’s misdemeanours you are your colleagues have, on numerous times blocked our revelations, with your beer swilling tales and stand pies comments, that had nothing at all to do with the reality of what sensible people might consider to be malfeasance by your friends in KTC.

Well jimmy k, let battle commence .

I go away for a few weeks and what happens? Nothing! Same old verbal abuse from the same suspects. Still let's not diverge from the subject at hand, I'm not familiar with this butcher, does anyone know if he makes a decent meat pie?

jimmy k, I notice that the gang is back ‘Muppet’ is here again, trying to divert the truth, as usual!

All we need now is ’Grit Bit’ man the Joker and Cougar-man, and your fully operational to attack the good precept payers of Keighley, who are fighting hard the ineptitude, of what I and an increasing number of financially hard pressed people believe is an organization of no-hopers.

These no-hopers refuse to pay large suns of money owed to Bradford while spending Ratepayer money on high staff salaries, and frivolities, such as £3000 for the indoors Christmas lights. (Ratepayers outside the Civic Centre couldn’t see their money burning away.)

Tell your friends at KTC to arrange to meet with a Debt Councillor as soon as possible.

Is one still in the Civic Centre?

What hypocrites you and your friends are in KTC jimmy k.

david,i know this will fall on deaf ears but god(if he existed loves a trier)this thread has absolutely nothing to do with the town council so why bring it up?as i've said on numerous times i have no connection with ktc i don't know anyone on the tc neither do i know anyone who has ever been on the tc.i'm not saying your right or wrong about the tc all i'm saying is i don't care.i have never to quote you been an apologist for the tc if you can point out where i have stood up for it please show me it and i'll be the first to put my hand up.finally may i say that whilst i find you insulting me highly amusing in my mind all your doing is making a bit of a fool of yourself in front of others however that's your right.all i'm saying is david you talk about the things you want to talk about and let me talk about the things i want to after all your the one who keeps going on about freedom of speech.what do you say?

jimmy k, from your past postings, anything that was or is said by you or Muppet, I wouldn't believe.

Your past postings, as I've already stated have as much validity as the propaganda from KTC which states the the Civic Centre is in profit! (Flying Pigs comes to mind jimmy K)

Prove to me that water is wet jimmy k, and I'll belive that you are fit to be Mayor of Keighley.

jimmy k; Why not change a habit of a lifetime, and instead of thinking about your beer and meat pies, why not think about those in Keighley who have to frequent the Salvation Army, because unlike Graham Mitchell, a 60p postage stamp means a pie.

cronk,i fear it's too late for the butchers once this blows over people will go back to the supermarkets and the butchers will go the same way as the greengrocers, indepen
dent petrol stations etc.

Were it indeed possible to "Like" comments, the mention of Lund's Butchers on Oakworth Road would be on my list... they do produce a spectacularly good growler. Oh **** it all... I'm going to have to go get some now. Hot with peas and mint sauce... personal nirvana.

jimmy k, I can get meat pies over here but have to pay an arm and a leg for them.
My brother is coming to visit in late March and already has a shopping list. No meat pies but tea bags, gravy granules and Heinz salad cream.
I agree Lunds pies were and I understand are still up there with the best.

lunds is the best i feared when john retired up but the standards were kept up.stevo i guess the horse meat scandal didn't reach there my thoughts are i can't see the difference in eating cow, sheep or horse it's just a labeling discrepancy i mean what do people expect in a tesco value 99p spag bol?

Stevo54 says...
7:12pm Wed 20 Feb 13

Fact is you either eat meat or you don't. The suppliers of the meat products are constantly sqeezed on price by the Tesco's of this world and all the supermarket chains for that matter, so there is always the risk that they will pad out the product with cheaper meat or some other kind of filler.
What it comes down to is does the consumer want to pay 99p or a fiver for the same stuff.
