Gala benefit charities to be named

Keighley Gala organisers will this year decide in advance which worthy causes should benefit from proceeds.

They believe knowing who will benefit could make the public more generous when attending.

Traditionally, organisations have been asked to apply for small grants once it is known how much each year’s gala has raised.

Committee members are now inviting local groups and charities to get in touch before the August 11 gala so it can draw up a list of beneficiaries.

Gala chairman Andrew Jackson said: “We want to make local groups in Keighley the focal point of the gala so people know what we are raising money for.”

Mr Jackson also hopes groups – including those hoping to benefit – will offer to help organise the gala or take part in the procession.
