Stars on Sunday for the Keighley lights switch-on

Keighley’s Christmas lights switch-on will again be held on a Sunday this year following the success of the 2012 event.

Organisers hope to attract an X Factor finalist for the third year running to headline the day’s family entertainment.

The lights switch-on has traditionally been held on a Thursday but was moved to Sunday November 18 last year.

Hundreds of people saw performances by X Factor finalist Kye Sones, as well as Adele and Jessie J tribute acts.

Town-centre manager Philip Smith said: “The event was extremely successful so the general feeling is it will be on a Sunday again.

“November 24 has been put forward as a suitable date.”

Keighley’s Christmas festivities could also be boosted by the town’s first dedicated Christmas market for several years.

Early plans were revealed at this month’s Keighley Town Centre Association meeting.

Proposals for a two-day Christmas market – possibly on December 14 and 15 – have already received support from Bradford Council’s markets team.

Stalls and activities would be sited in the Church Green area, Low Street and outside the bus station. Detailed discussions will be held at future KTCA meetings.
