‘Monstrous’ Keighley man jailed for 11 years for two rapes and child sex

A ‘monstrous and disgusting’ man who raped a teaching assistant after driving her to secluded woodland was yesterday jailed for 11 years and three months.

Bed shop owner Fiazul Islam, 32, picked up the woman in her 20s as she walked home alone after a night out with work colleagues in Keighley before raping her twice in the back of his car.

Bradford Crown Court heard he was caught by police after her mobile phone, which was missing after the attack, was found in his bedroom after a 15-year-old girl accused him of a separate sexual offence more than a year later.

Sentencing him for two counts or rape and one offence of sexual activity with a child, Judge John Potter told him: “You are a sex offender, prepared to violate and humiliate your victims to satisfy your own wicked sexual desires.”

Sophie Drake, prosecuting, said the woman shared a taxi home with colleagues after a night out at a restaurant and pub on July 21, 2010.

The court heard she was dropped off a short distance from her home after deciding to walk the rest of the way, but “the next she remembered was being in the defendant’s car”.

The woman was driven away from Keighley and into Bingley, where Islam parked the car in an isolated area. He then raped her twice as she cried and said ‘no’, Miss Drake said.

Police were called after she arrived home distressed in the early hours, with scratches to her body.

A year later, on November 11, 2011, Miss Drake said a 15-year-old girl reported a sexual offence against Islam and the woman’s phone was found at his home.

Islam, 32, of Mannville Road, Knowle Park, Keighley, denied two counts of rape at a trial, claiming the woman had consented to sex, but was convicted by a jury.

He admitted sexual activity with a child in a separate hearing.

Aisha Khan, mitigating, said her client had described himself as “monstrous and disgusting” and was sorry for his actions.

Sentencing him to ten years for rape, the judge said: “You treated her in her words at trial as nothing but a piece of meat. In your words you believed your Christmas had come early.”

He was handed a consecutive 15-month sentence for sexual activity with a child and ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life.
