Eight-year-old Cameron Boyes is the latest youngster to take to the airwaves on Cowling-based Drystone Radio.

He has been given his own regular slot – at 4pm on Tuesdays – at the community radio station. He previously had a five-minute spot on another show.

Presenter Mick Peacock said: “Cameron has a natural enthusiasm, which comes across on the radio.

“He clearly enjoys presenting, has a good knowledge of music and, most importantly, is very confident. It was an easy decision for the station to award him a regular slot.”

Cameron, who also plays guitar and sings, said: “I love being on the radio – it’s really good fun and I would like to do this as a job when I grow up.”

He hopes to develop his hour-long show around schools, involving them in selecting music and giving pupils the chance to have songs dedicated to them.

Nurturing young talent is a trademark of the station. In 2010, ‘Crazy Daisy’ Watkiss made national headlines when she presented a weekly Saturday show at the age of nine.
