Sutton centre works on track for opening

Refurbishment works being undertaken at Sutton Community Centre are on course to be completed later this month.

Barbara Smith, chairman of the community centre’s committee, said improvements involving the provision of a disabled toilet and installation of a new fire exit were expected to be finished by March 18.

“We hope the new exit at the back will allow people to make better use of the grounds,” said Barbara. “The old toilets were really unsatisfactory and not up to modern standards.”

Refurbishment works, which started on February 11, cost £8,500 and are being paid for by grants from the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All scheme, Mawsis Masonic Lodge and Sutton Parish Council.

The building – formerly known as the Senior Citizens Centre – has had to be closed down while works are finished.
