Legendary boxer Frank Bruno has given some heavyweight support to the Phoenix School appeal.

The popular former world champion spoke at a special fundraising evening about his life inside and outside the ring.

He also posed for photos and signed autographs during Saturday’s event at Octagon Live in Sandbeds.

A sell-out audience of 300 attended.

“Frank loved it and said the crowd was amazing,” said a spokesman for Bingley-based MJK Sports Events, which organised the night.

“We stage sports events for different clubs and charities and I know a couple of people with children at Phoenix School, who mentioned the minibus appeal. It seemed a great cause to support.”

The event, which is expected to coin in at least £2,000 once all monies have been collected, also featured Halifax-based comedian Lee Roberts, a three-course meal and auction.

Master of ceremonies was Sky Sports’ Paul Booth.
