A charity fundraiser based at Airedale Hospital is limbering up to tackle a series of challenges – and is urging the public to join her in the fight to save lives.

Bronagh Daly is preparing to run, swim and walk in aid of the Steeton hospital.

And she has secured 60 places for others to also take part in the Jane Tomlinson events.

“Our focus at present is on buying new endoscopy equipment, but people can choose any ward or department to benefit from their fundraising,” said Mrs Daly.

“And people don’t have to raise massive amounts of money. All we are asking is they promise to raise at least £100 – any more than that would be amazing.”

The first event being tackled by the 35-year-old mother-of-two is a family walk – the Peaks Challenge – on April 28.

Other walks planned include several in the Lake District in September.

Running challenges begin with the Leeds Half Marathon on May 12. There are also 10k runs in Leeds, Hull and York.

And swims include a 500 or 1500-metre challenge at Pugneys Country Park in Wakefield on June 23.

“I’m urging everyone – whatever their level of fitness – to get involved,” said Mrs Daly. “You can choose your event, from a little walk to a half-marathon.

“I’ve done a few charity walks and runs and always have a great day out. I only started running a few years ago and I am by no means fast, but I love the challenge, as well as raising money for the hospital.”

Mrs Daly added taking part in the activities was also a good way of getting, or keeping, fit.

“It’s helping me lose weight – I’ve lost two stone already and I’m aiming to shed another eight.”

The endoscopy appeal – launched at Christmas – aims to generate more than £60,000 for new equipment, including a video processor, which helps diagnose patients more quickly and provides a clearer image for the clinician.

Donations to the appeal can be made by texting ENDO60 followed by £ and the amount to 70070 or by visiting the justgiving. com/AiredaleEndoscopy ChristmasAppeal website.
