Silsden will this year have its own mini-Glastonbury Festival following the success of last summer’s Diamond Do.

The town’s first music festival attracted more than 1,500 people for a weekend of free entertainment in the park.

Organisers are now preparing the line-up for its sequel – Silsdenbury Fest – to be held on August 24 and 25.

They plan to raise enough money to cover the entire costs, so they can again give free entry to the public.

Andrew Conway, one of the leading lights, said half the costs had already been raised.

He added: “We did the Diamond Do as a one-off, but due to tonnes of e-mails asking us to put on entertainment, a group of us got together again.

“It's going to be an event for everyone – it’s free, and there will be mostly local performers.”

Already booked are popular 1960s covers band The Big Bang, southern band AKA Scarface and several local duos.

Bands will perform in a marquee accommodating 1,000 people, and others will be able to see performers on a giant screen outside.

There will also be a fun fair and stalls. Traders wishing to take part should e-mail silsdenevents@hotmail.co.uk or call 07957 887078.
