Tributes have already begun to be paid in Keighley to former Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher, who has died today, aged 87.

Haworth resident Peter Hill, chairman of the Keighley and Ilkley Conservative Association, said: “I’m saddened to hear of her death.

"She was a great stateswoman and a very good prime minister.

“There are those who will think otherwise, but regardless of what people from different parties might say, her name will be long remembered. She had the courage of her convictions.”

Lady Thatcher’s involvement with the Keighley area included a visit in July 1972, when she was Education Secretary. She arrived to re-open the newly refurbished Keighley Library, and also went to Cliffe Castle Museum and the Bronte Parsonage Museum.
