Schoolchildren were invited to learn how to look after pets at a workshop in Keighley.
The event for children from Eastwood Primary was part of the launch of a new Pets at Home branch at Keighley Retail Park, Hard Ings Road. The new shop has created nine jobs.
Keighley mayor Councillor Sally Walker opened the store last Friday and was given a tour of the premises.
Following a competition in the Keighley News to find the town’s new pet star, Friday’s launch was also used to welcome the winner – Pekingese dog Harvey and his Glusburn owner Rebecca Page.
They received £150 worth of gift vouchers and a free grooming session.
Store manager Sharron Hesselwood said: “We look forward to being actively involved in the local pet community and hope we’re able to support lots of local organisations in raising awareness of responsible pet care in the area.”
Representatives from local animal charities will be invited to spend time at the store to tell customers about their work and raise funds for their cause.
The branch will be home to an adoption centre, where pets such as rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and other small animals will be cared for until a new loving home can be found.
