Hollywood is coming to Cullingworth as the village’s popular annual scarecrow festival takes place next month.

And entries are invited this year on a movie-based theme.

Since it began 11 years ago, the event has raised thousands of pounds for Manorlands and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, and the two causes will again share the proceeds.

Anyone is invited to enter the festival, on September 7 and 8. There is an open category in addition to the themed section.

“We normally have around 40 scarecrows. It’s a lovely weekend that brings the village together,” said event chairman Mrs Rosemary Spencer.

“Thanks to those who make the scarecrows and the people who come along to give their generous support, we usually raise about £600 for each of the charities every year.”

Money is raised through the sale of programmes, which will be available at £1 each from village shops later this month, and donations.

Scarecrows will be on show from 10am both days and a minibus will make regular trips around Cullingworth for people unable to walk the route.

There will be several refreshment points and stalls will be held in the village hall.
