A teacher is planning on continuing her career in education in a drastically different location.
Terri Collier, head of social science at South Craven School, will soon be heading for Kazakhstan – more than 3,400 miles from the UK.
She has been at South Craven in Cross Hills for six years and has been offered a post similar to her current role in Kazakhstan’s biggest city, Almaty. She will move to a school which was established as a satellite of Haileybury, an independent school in Hertfordshire.
A South Craven spokesman said: “The main language spoken in Kazakhstan is Russian but the country is looking to extend and preserve its own Kazakh language, and luckily for Terri many of the subjects are taught in English.
“She will be teaching psychology and sociology and leaves for her Kazakh school on August 16.
“We wish her well in her adventure and hope she will pop in when she is on leave to talk to our students about this new job, new people and new culture.”
