Keighley Social housing landlord supports national campaign to build more affordable homes
5:40pm Sunday 8th September 2013 in Keighley
Keighley social housing landlord Incommunities is supporting a national campaign to tackle a shortage of homes.
The group is backing the National Housing Federation’s ‘Yes to Homes’ week, which is pressing for the construction of more affordable properties.
The initiative was launched on Monday.
Incommunities group chief executive, Geraldine Howley, said: “We are committed to helping meet the growing demand for high-quality social housing.
“With the help of the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), we have invested more than £48 million in delivering local homes, many for rent.
“However, we are keen to do more to deliver local housing for local people. That’s why we are backing the Yes to Homes campaign to get the sector moving again.”
Jez Lester, the group’s assistant chief executive (asset management), said Incommunities prided itself on building only on brownfield sites and not in the green belt.
“We take an innovative approach to delivering new social housing, in many cases working with development partners to build on former housing sites,” he added.
“More public investment would unlock the potential of further sites in the district and, that’s why it’s important to say ‘Yes to Homes’.”
Incommunities has built 554 homes during the past seven years, and new schemes currently underway will provide a further 65 family-sized houses for rent, supported by HCA grants.
