Green for go as primary Haworth Primary School presented with prestigious title
3:30pm Tuesday 10th September 2013 in Keighley
Pupils and staff are celebrating an award recognising their dedication to protecting the environment and promoting responsible citizenship.
Haworth Primary School has been presented with its fourth Green Flag. The initiative forms part of Keep Britain Tidy’s Eco-Schools programme, which allows schools to work towards three accolades – bronze, silver and the highest recognition, the Green Flag.
Outgoing Haworth Primary headteacher Janet Parkinson said: “We are absolutely delighted to have renewed our Green Flag once again.
“Our pupils who make up the school eco committee had conducted a tour of the school with an assessor, who described their enthusiasm and knowledge as ‘inspirational’.
“I would like to thank all the staff and children for their hard work to achieve this yet again, but special thanks goes to Michelle Brady for all the eco projects she does when covering classes.
“As the assessor clearly saw, sustainability is now at the heart of our green curriculum and I am delighted to be hoisting our fourth Green Flag just before I leave.”
The school’s eco committee, which makes sure Haworth Primary stays on the right ecological track, includes 14 volunteer pupils.
They are divided into pairs, with each duo specialising in areas such as litter picking, bio diversity, energy and recycling.
