Boxing star Amir Khan's guest appearance at a sell-out charity event in Keighley
5:30pm Thursday 12th September 2013 in Keighley
Boxing star Amir Khan made a special guest appearance at a sell-out charity event in Keighley, which raised more than £14,000.
He assisted with an auction during the event, which was called ‘A Night of Giving’ and took place at Victoria Hall on Monday.
Organiser Razaq Hussain said hundreds of people attended the evening, adding that a boxing glove signed by Khan had alone raised £1,200.
All the proceeds from the £15 per head night will be donated to orphans in Pakistan via the Bait-ul-Yatamaa Orphanage, and people affected by the Syrian civil war via the Ummah Welfare Trust’s Syria Appeal.
Mr Hussain said: “I was more than happy with how it went, I hadn’t been expecting so many people, some had even come from as far away as Glasgow and Sheffield.
“It was great that Amir Khan was there but it was always meant to be more about the charities than the superstars.
“The backing from local businesses and the wider community was overwhelming, and I want to thank everyone who contributed. I couldn’t have asked for better support.”
He said that the night had included a meal, raffle, auctions, a mechanical rodeo and performances by a Manchester singer called Nafees.
