Couple take over at Keighley's Royal Oak
11:20am Tuesday 24th September 2013 in Keighley
A Keighley town centre pub is in new hands.
Haworth couple Paddy and Lisa Gaskin have taken on the tenancy of the Royal Oak, in Damside.
Mr Gaskin, 32, who is originally from Ireland, has been assistant manager at the premises since last October.
Responding to his latest venture he said: “It’s exciting and daunting at the same time, and it’s a great opportunity for us.
“This will be the first pub I’ve run on my own and it’ll be a lot of responsibility but I’m really looking forward to the challenge.
“It’s a good pub – in my opinion it’s the best in the town. It’s great for sports and we have loyal, regular customers who come to us in the week, and a younger crowd at weekends.
“We’ve recently changed the menu and since then we’ve doubled our weekly food takings.”
Mr Gaskin was originally employed as a printer but has been in the pub trade for 10 years, including a stint in Dublin and a year in Australia. Since he moved to England he has also worked at The Fleece, in Haworth and The Yard, in Ilkley.
Lisa Gaskin, also 32, will be assisting her husband at the Royal Oak. She is an advertising sales executive for Newsquest.
