Keighley MP welcomes GP surgery times plan
10:00am Friday 4th October 2013 in Keighley
Government plans to extend patient access to GP surgeries have been welcomed by Keighley MP Kris Hopkins.
He said the initiative, which would see practices open seven days a week from 8am to 8pm, was necessary to relieve pressure on hospital Accident and Emergency departments.
Prime Minister David Cameron announced this week a £50 million scheme will be piloted across England next year.
Speaking from the Tory party conference in Manchester, Mr Hopkins said: “I think these are sensible, and indeed necessary, proposals to enable more people to access professional medical care without the need to visit their local hospital.
“Under the pilot project, patients will also be given the chance to speak to their GP by phone or via Skype, or send them an e-mail.
“I believe it is right to try all the options available to ensure the final scheme is the best it can possibly be.”
