‘Stupid imbecile’ defaces Glusburn dog bin
1:00pm Tuesday 15th October 2013 in Keighley
A dog owner has been accused of vandalising a waste bag dispenser provided by volunteers because it was empty.
The unknown culprit scrawled ‘we cannot be a***d filling this’ on one of the clean-up stations provided by the Glusburn and District Dog Fouling Focus Group and sponsored by local businesses and Craven District Council.
Dog lover, Jill Hirst, who helped to found the group and has been spearheading its work for more than a year, has branded offender’s action as “imbecilic”.
“This is an adult’s handiwork. I think the ‘we’ mistakenly refers to Craven Council in that the person is wrongly blaming the local authority for not filling the dispenser with bags. But it has nothing to do with them.
“What can we say about a person like this? It’s the work of an imbecile – a stupid, lazy person who hasn’t grasped what this is all about.
“We provide and fill the dispensers in our own time. I put 200 bags in that dispenser in one week. Sadly, some people think they can take as many as they like.
“This is not a free bag service but for people who forget to bring their own. Responsible dog owners should take their own bags along.”
Group member, Patrick Hargreaves, added: “This has really hit Jill below the belt.
“Deliberately going out tooled-up with unsociable sentiments and a black marker pen and doing this is bound to be hurtful.”
The group has set up five weather-proof bag dispensers along the beckside path, which runs from Glusburn through Glusburn Woods.
They are kept replenished by volunteers thanks to funding from Ashlands vets, Kingsway vets, Glusburn-based Cirteq, Matthew Hirst Building and Tiling and Springfield Cattery and Kennels.
