Stitch in time to get place on new course in Keighley
1:50pm Saturday 19th October 2013 in Keighley
Keighley residents can learn how to make do and mend during a workshop this month.
Fiona Drake and Charlotte Meek will teach people how to mend, darn and stitch damaged clothing.
The pair, who between them have 80 years’ experience of making and mending, together run the Stitch Society.
Fiona said participants will learn how to turn old and worn garments and fabrics into beautiful usable pieces.
She said: “Mending and darning is part of our heritage – it is a gentle and skilled art.
“We hope to keep alive the skill of darning, mending and stitching as a way of respecting and valuing our clothing.”
Techniques will include sock darning, sewn patching, woven darning, patch mending and felting.
The Mending Day is at Keighley Business Centre on October 27, from 1pm to 8pm, and is open to anyone aged 16 or over.
The cost is £45, including all materials and equipment, and people will be able to take home a pincushion and ‘mending goodies’.
