Cononley Institute opening by young and old
2:20pm Saturday 19th October 2013 in Keighley
The grand opening of the newly-refurbished Cononley Village Institute went ahead without a hitch on Saturday.
The refurbishment itself was virtually problem-free, was finished more or less on time and has delivered a light-filled and spacious interior.
Julian Brown, chairman of the institute management committee, thanked the architects – Nuttall, Yarwood and Partners – and the building contractor, Enoch Harrison and Son Ltd, for their professional work, as well as committee members for their efforts in developing the proposals and gaining funding.
And he thanked the Cononley community for its support, especially in raising a third of the money needed.
One of the oldest residents, Ellen Kingsbury, and two of the most recent arrivals, three-month-old Violet Long Guest and four-month-old Marcus Gibbons, cut the ribbon to officially open the building, watched by a sizeable crowd.
More than 80 people attended a dinner and disco in the evening, enjoying the unique Cononley Sausage Cassoulet and celebrating the occasion in style.
